Hello, again, Jeff…

… and thanks for taking the time to click through to this page.

I understand that finding new Sales Engineers is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.  Think of me as that needle coming to find you.

I’ve been considering the move to Fort Wayne now for some time now, and have always thought that Sweetwater would be a great place to work. But I really became convinced that I was an excellent match for Sweetwater when I read, on your website, the qualities you look for in your Sales Engineers.  Those qualities are, for the most part, the exact qualities that have allowed me to be successful in my sales career:

  • A high level of ethics
  • Extensive and successful sales experience, both in one-on-one sales to individuals, and as a corporate account representative
  • Finely-honed people skills – conversant, caring, intuitive, empathetic, etc.
  • A service-oriented philosophy
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Finely-honed sales instincts
  • Strong competitive drive
  • Excellent negotiating skills
  • Self-starting and self-managing
  • An excellent multi-tasker
  • A good balance between intuitive right brain and analytical left brain functioning; I’ve been successful both artistically and in business

So it’s true that I believe in my heart that I would be an excellent Sales Engineer at Sweetwater Sound.

And I realize that it’s bold to call myself a future Sweetwater Sales Engineer. But I don’t say it with caprice.   I believe it, and for good reason. I believe that my considerable experience, both as a sales professional and as a real-world, marketing musician, combined with a high level of innate intelligence and creativity, highly effective communication skills, practical and effective organization skills, and a naturally engaging, likable personality, make me that needle in a haystack.

In fact, I’m so convinced that Sweetwater Sound and I are an excellent match, I’m writing today to promote myself not only as a candidate for the Sales Engineer position, but also to be a part of your upcoming 13-week Sales Engineer training. In other words, I believe that my unique skills set are so well-matched with the requirements for success at Sweetwater that it would be well worth the effort to fast-track my application.

Jeff, at the root of my strong belief that we are such a good match is the fact that we share one vital philosophy: Always Do The Right Thing. That’s how I was raised, right there in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and that’s always been my goal in my personal and professional life.

Please call me at your earliest convenience. I appreciate your time and consideration, and I look forward to talking to you, meeting you, and working with you.

P.S. I invite you to read what my current customers say about me on my testimonials page. Also, you can see my current press kit here, and read my music bio here.

P.S.S. Here’s a brief outline of the relevant points of my personal history:

I grew up in Fort Wayne, and graduated from North Side High School in 1973. I was a multi-letter athlete in track and cross-country, and the first chair saxophonist in band and a featured soloist in the Wildsiders Jazz Band under the legendary Barry Ashton.

After high school I enlisted in the Army Band, and served 3 years in Europe.

In 1978 I moved to Los Angeles, and worked as a gigging musician.

In 1982, I took employment at Coast Envelope (later Federal Envelope), a division of International Paper, as corporate sales account manager. I was responsible for servicing major accounts like

  • Prudential Insurance
  • Lockheed/Martin Aerospace
  • Universal Studios
  • Warner/Elektra/Atlantic Records

As a Coast Envelope sales rep., part of my duties were to man our booth at trade shows, a duty I am well-suited for and completely comfortable with.

In 1989, I created and ran a very successful envelope brokerage business called Independent Envelope.  I serviced many of the same accounts as before, and was successful based upon my ability to both provide excellent personal service, and to maintain relationships with corporate purchasing agents.

In 1994, after having recorded two CDs in my home studio, I tried selling them at a street fair in Tucson and was successful beyond my expectation.  Since that time, and after having retired from the envelope industry, I have produced and recorded an additional 16 CD projects, have sold many hundreds of thousands of them, and have accumulated extensive experience in organizing:

  • song arranging
  • writing charts (Finale)
  • hiring and rehearsing musicians
  • in-studio production
  • 1000′s of hours of sequencing
  • 1000′s of hours of mixing
  • mastering
  • graphic design
  • coordinating manufacture
  • inventory control
  • sales
  • accounting

Additionally, I have performed extensively and successfully with my band, The Mark Maxwell Band, and am completely comfortable in front of large audiences.

Thanks, again, for your time and consideration, Jeff!
